Hi there,
I am desperate to find out which Luftwaffe recconaissance unit sent out a Henschel Hs 126 (crew: Friedrich Wiemmer & navigator Von Heyman) on a sortie over Poland (1 September 1939 small hours of the morning) that was subsequently brought down by a Polish fighter PZL p 11c lieutenant pilot Stanis³aw Skalski (the Torun Dyon). Having shot down the Hs 126, Skalski landed his PZL, assisted the wounded German crewmen ( Von Heyman seriously wounded with eight bullets in the back). Both German aviators were taken POWs and soon released by the Russians after 17 September 1939. I need to know the markings and camouflage of the said Henschel. Is there anybody out there who has some knowledge of these things? One more dilemma, could anyone please shed some light on the order of battle for 1 KG Hindenburg during the Polish Campaign (losses, types of bombers etc)/ Thanks a lot for your assistance beforehand.
Stay in good health

Welcome mark!
You have found Polish "Sturmovik" forum section dedicated to planned "9/39" add-on for "BOB". As you can see, this is Polish-spoken section, but rest assured that your questions will not remain unanswered - we've got some people who speak English, like yours truly 8)
In case you wanted to continue the discussion, I invite you to our English-spoken section at:
http://www.9-1939.pl/phpBB2/

1) The Henschel Hs 126 (probably A-1, but maybe B-1?) from 3.(H)/21 (3rd Staffel of Aufklarung Gruppe 21 scouting for XIX Panzer Corps, side code P2+....) flown by Leutnant Friedrich Wimmer & Oberleutnant (navigator) von Heyman was shot down by por.(lieutenant) Marian Pisarek, 141 Fighter Escadrille, III/4 dyon (the squadron from Toruń), together with his wingman kpr.(corporal) Benedykt Mielczyński. Skalski was in second pair (with por. Karol Pniak) that supposedly aided them (but Pisarek's post-combat report did not mentioned it). After the Henschel crash landed in the field, Skalski landed near it, patched up the wounded von Heyman and took Wimmer (hiding in the woods) as POW using a ....zippo, because he left his VIS pistol in the base!   He also captured German maps with sensitive information marked on them.

The Committee that confirmed air kills, set up at the end of the war, led by płk.(colonel) Jerzy Bajan, confirmed that Pisarek and Mielczyński get 1/2 kill each. Skalski's claim for 1/4 kill was rejected.

But don't blame the guy for colorizing his book "Black crosses over Poland" by saying he downed the plane. It was written in prison, after 8 years of tortures from the hands of communists...  no wonder that his memory was failing him.

2) The Kampfgeschwader 1 "Hindenburg" (side code V4+....) used Heinkels He 111, both E-3 (...well some "E" for sure) and H-1 version. Both I. & II. Gruppe and Stab Staffel had a total of 83 bombers on September the 1st, 1939 - 65 of them were fully operational.

Re: hs 126
Hi there,
I am amazed at such a swift & in-depth reply to my posting on both the Henschel story as well as the Hindenburg Heinkels. I`d been carpeting different forums i.e German, British, American with posts on the downed Hs 126 and guess what - NOT A SAUSAGE and then I put it up on the Polish one and it worked wonders, true experts, I must say, you are, no doubt about it.
Thanks a lot again, lads !
